U3As are self help charitable organisations for retired and semi-retired people. They operate in many countries.   The U3A LancsLink arranges study days and other joint activities for members of individual U3As who have joined our network. Our geographic coverage is mainly in the central and eastern part of 'old' Lancashire and extends into Greater Manchester and Cumbria.
In the UK local U3A networks, such as the Lancashire Link, concentrate on fostering local collaborations between U3As and organising local meetings. They have geographic boundaries set by themselves.  Membership of networks is voluntary and most charge a small membership fee to their constituent U3As. There is no restriction on a U3A being a member of more than one network.
We started in 2007 and follow a typical pattern. We have about two meetings a year at which each member U3A is asked to send 1 or 2 delegates. These meetings exchange information and plan our activities which have included annual Group Leaders Meetings and Subject Study Days. We plan to extend our activities by fostering collaborationd between the members of LancsLink U3As at the individual subject group level.
